For all of our multi-lesson courses, you need to have at least a Private Pilot License. If you would like to fly with us for a Super Decathlon Experience Lesson, a pilot license is preferred, but not required.
For any lessons in the Super Decathlon, you need closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothes. If you have your own headset, you can bring that or borrow our loaner one.
If you have prior aerobatic experience, you can do an evaluation briefing and flight with one of our instructors to determine if you have the required base knowledge to successfully complete the Competition Aerobatics course.
Any time you are doing aerobatics (more than 60 degrees of bank and/or 30 degrees of pitch), you are required to wear a parachute. The only exception to this rule is if you are doing spin training with a CFI.
Seat position during a lesson will be left to the discretion of the instructor based on student experience level.
Due to insurance limitations, solo flights will not be permitted in the Decathlon.
Each lesson is generally an hour or less. Keep in mind that we are doing maneuvers that your body is not used to, so doing these heavy G maneuvers in short bursts is best. When blocking out time to do your lesson, plan on being at the airport for 2-3 hours depending upon how much pre-briefing and post-briefing is required for each lesson.

Motion sickness is a definite possibility when flying abnormally. In an effort to reduce this reaction, our instructors are trained to ease you into each maneuver as your body adjusts to experiencing different G loads. Your instructor will help you recognize and mitigate your motion sickness with the goal that you never have to use the sick bags that we keep in the aircraft.
The aircraft is based out of KDYB in Summerville, SC. Due to regulations, we can't do aerobatics within the lateral bounds of an airport, within 4 miles of a victor airway, or below 1,500ft AGL. We typically choose to practic near the western border of Lake Moultrie, coordinating with Charleston approach the entire flight.
